The report for one title reaches its author.
We do not publish, distribute, print, or pay royalties. What we hold is the reported sales for a title, visible to the two parties whose contract depends on it.
-
01
The report arrives as it arrives
Sales and returns as reported by distributors and retailers, at the point they come in rather than six months later.
-
02
The author sees their own title
Not the publisher's business. Not other authors. The figures underlying their own contract.
-
03
Returns adjust in view of both
The credit that reduces a period is visible when it happens, rather than surfacing as an unexplained drop in a later statement.
-
04
The statement follows from the record
The royalty is arithmetic over figures both parties have been looking at all along.
Contracts still differ, advances still have to earn out, and accounting periods still exist. What ends is the author being asked to accept a number with no visible inputs.
If you publish, or are published.
The useful thing is concrete: what your statement shows and what you wish it showed.
